Need $10,000 to boost your great idea?
If you need that little hit to see if your idea is viable, a new ongoing competition backed by Advanta Bank called Ideablob has just launched and might be able to help. The site lets aspiring entrepreneurs and small business owners share and compare ideas and compete for a monthly user voted $10,000 prize for the best idea. Advanta claim that launching Ideablob is:
“Supporting and providing service to small businesses is part of our mission, and ideablob.com is a tool to help small business owners and entrepreneurs. including our own customers, communicate with each other, exchange ideas and grow their businesses.”
Advanta is one of the largest credit card issuers in the United States and it is certainly refreshing to see a bank take such an initiative. It certainly needs some vamped up social networking features to be taken seriously, given that if the main purpose is to collaborate on ideas and get feedback then it lacks the regular vehicles for doing so - where are the forums and discussion tools? Another concern that sprang to mind for me is if you had an amazing business idea, would you publish it on a network of hungry entrepreneurs?
I also couldn’t help but think of the inevitable silly question - if the idea of Ideablob was on Ideablob, would you vote for it?

I think it is refreshing to see a big company giving back or at least inspiring and supporting new business ideas. I read some info about Advanta on the site– great story- they started as a small business and obviously have not forgotten where they came from. Great idea! $10k is probably not enough to start a business but it helps and certainly can help better an existing one. site does need some work but not bad for a beta start. I put my idea out there……..My $.02 hopefully next comment wil be my $10,000
